A young boy named Marty Preston lives in the hills near Friendly, West Virginia. One day a beagle, who he names Shiloh, follows him home. Marty loves this beagle and wants to keep him. He finds out the dog belongs to Judd Travers, the meanest man in the town. Marty knows Judd does not treat his dogs right and decides he will do whatever it takes to keep this dog. We liked Shiloh because the story captures your heart by showing the love a boy has for a dog. I recommend this book to other students who enjoy reading about pets. My favorite part was when Marty confronts Judd Travers in order to keep Shiloh. Marty proves he is very brave when he does confront Judd. I also learned a lot about telling the truth because Marty tells many lies in the story, in order to protect Shiloh. I hope you will decide to read this great book!

Poems by me!
Haiku:
A big Birch tree stands
Its white hide peels off in strips
Writing to the Earth.
Limerick:
There once was a king who wore shorts
While partying or when holding court
Even to dance
He would never wear pants
Now there is a king i’d support.
Cinquain:
Scary
Long pionty tails
With venom at the tip
To hunt or protect from the back
Watch out!
Success Is Counted Sweetest
Emily Dickinson
Success is counted sweetest
By those who ne’er succeed.
To comprehend a nectar
Requires sorest need.
Not one of all the purple host
Who took the flag to-day
Can tell the definition,
So clear, of victory!
As he, defeated, dying,
On whose forbidden ear
The distant strains of triumph
Burst agonized and clear!
Reflection: She is saying that if you really want something you have to work for it.
Sleeping In The Forest
Sleeping In The Forest
Mary Oliver
Reflection: She sounds like kind of a tree hugger but she did a good job describing nature.
Touched By an Angel
Touched By An Angel
Maya Angelou
We, unaccustomed to courage exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.
Love arrives and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls.
We are weaned from our timidity
In the flush of love’s light
we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free.
Reflection: She is saying how important love can actually be. We are love and that is all we will ever be.
Women’s Work
Women’s Work
Maya Angelou
I’ve got the children to tend
The clothes to mend
The floor to mop
The food to shop
Then the chicken to fry
The baby to dry
I got company to feed
The garden to weed
I’ve got shirts to press
The tots to dress
The can to be cut
I gotta clean up this hut
Then see about the sick
And the cotton to pick.
Shine on me, sunshine
Rain on me, rain
Fall softly, dewdrops
And cool my brow again.
Storm, blow me from here
With your fiercest wind
Let me float across the sky
‘Til I can rest again.
Fall gently, snowflakes
Cover me with white
Cold icy kisses and
Let me rest tonight.
Sun, rain, curving sky
Mountain, oceans, leaf and stone
Star shine, moon glow
You’re all that I can call my own.
Reflection: I think this poem is about how much woman work and they just want some time to themselves and to turn away from all of her even just for a little while.

Free Write
The weather has been really nice recently and it’s awesome! I have been riding my bike almost every day. Pretty much every day I end up riding my bike about a mile down the road to Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge. That is the coolest place in the world! There is a lot of bike trails, ponds, boatdocks, and bridges. I always stay until it’s dark. You always see a bunch of animals there too. We always see birds, and for this past week i’ve been seeing this turtle. When I first saw it I thought it was an alligator because it’s shell was sticking out of the water and swimming really far away. But the last time I went which was about two days ago, I saw him again up close and it was just a little snapping turtle. Iwas kind of sad but relieved at the same time because I thought that it was cool because it was the first alligator I have ever seen in real life but I was relieved that it wasn’t so now it could never eat me. But anyway, I always have a good time there and the soda machine cost only 60 cents but sometimes the machine eats your money. Below is a picture from one of th trails that I ride down most of the times I am down there.

Spring Break
I can’t wait until spring break! Most likely I will be going outside everyday. To the boardwalk and to Prime Hook. I usually ride my bike to Prime Hook because I think it is just more fun that way. I am always at the boardwalk during the summer and spring break. I love going to the boardwalk because there is always so much to do. At Prime Hook, there are a couple of ponds and it’s just fun to be there.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Book Review
The wizarding world sounds like such a wonderful place. But unfortunately, there isn’t one. This story is about Harry Potter, who is 16 at the time. In the story, he is put on trial with possible expulsion from Hogwarts, a school for wizards. He was on trial for producing a patronus charm, in front of his cousin, who is not a wizard. But it was because they were being attacked by dementors.
This story is told by a narrarator. This narrarator does a good job telling the story. He/she does such a great job that this is my favorite book series that I have ever read. The narrorator uses intricate detail that makes you not want to stop reading.
Harrys’ best friends are Ronald Weasley, and Hermione Granger. They stick with him for the whole entire story. Ron is a red headed boy that is very big of a klutz when it comes to magic, and Hermione, is kind of what you would call a brainiac. Most of the time when Ron does something wrong, she is always the one to correct him.
Throughout the story Harry, Ron, And Hermione are always getting into trouble, but for a good reason. Harry and Ron are the troublemakers and Hermione tries to stop them, but always somehow gets sucked into all of the mix. But, most of the time it’s a good thing because she always uses her brain to fix whatever has gone wrong.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a story filled with everything you could possibly want in a book. This book has good, evil, love, hate, and adventure. If you want to see all of these categories fall into place, I would recommend reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
